Hough St. Patrick’s
Day Parade: Our school will be walking in the Parade on Tuesday, March 17th
at 12:00pm, to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and our community. We
will let classes out early at 11:45 so you can collect your kids and meet us
there. You may also want to bring your child a lunch to eat before we walk, since it is during a normal lunchtime. The parade starts in front of Hough Elementary
and makes a loop through the neighborhood, onto Main Street and back to the
school. It is a very easy walk and strollers are welcome! Please come with your
family and show support for Little Acorn by joining us in the parade. As
always, parents are responsible for transportation and supervision of their
children during the event.

Recap
Of Last Week: Last week we read about wind and
made some wind socks with rainbow colored streamers. We had lots of fun using
‘gold nuggets’ and dice to do some addition and subtraction with partners.
Math & Science: This
week we will talk about heavy and light. We will measure and weigh potatoes on
St Patrick’s Day and do some activities with the balance scale to explore
weight. We will also have some more fun using the ‘gold nuggets’ to add and
subtract.
Literacy: This week we will be
re-working our reading groups in order to better meet each child at their own
reading level. We will also have a new station during literacy time; Sight
Words. We will begin each week with new sight words that we will work on
throughout the week.
Writing: During Writer’s
Workshop we will be concentrating on making sure our letter formation is
correct, while sounding out our words for our Rough Drafts. We will also be
encouraging students to use their imaginations to come up with new topics they
ahven’t written about before. The prompts for this week will be “If I found a
pot of gold …” and “The cage door opened and …”
Social Studies & Art: We will
be finishing up work on our projects for the Art Show on Saturday morning. For
St. Patrick’s Day, we will make wreaths which we can bring with us to the
parade. We will also be doing a few listening skills activities this week.
Family Breakfast & Art Show: We would love for you and your family to join
us next Saturday, March 21st from 8:00-10:00, to celebrate Children’s
Art and Our Families. This is our way of
thanking the great families we have here at LAPSK and to show some fun creative
art that your child has done. We will be serving pancakes, sausage, fruit and
coffee/milk and its all free for families/students. This will also be opening
day of our spring Scholastic Book fair, so come check it out too.

find a time that does work with your schedule.
