Hello
Kindergarten Families!
Recap of the Week: Last week we
worked on the letters H, I, J, K, and L. Now that we have learned almost half
of the alphabet, we are beginning to put 3 letter words together, such as had,
bag, big, etc. We experimented with mixing colors together and learned the
Spanish color words this week too.
Math: As we will be going to the
pumpkin patch at the end of the week, we are going to do some math activities
using mini-pumkins. We will weigh them, measure them, and estimate how many
seeds are inside the teacher’s one. We will also look at more and less and work
on filling in the missing numbers between 0 and 20.
Literacy: This week we will work on
the letters m, n, o, and p. We will continue to build 3 letter words from the
sounds we already know. We will also start sounding out words we come across in
our daily activities.
Writing: In handwriting we
will work on the letters H and K. We will continue doing some “side by side”
drawings where I instruct students how to draw with shapes. Then they will be
encouraged to sound out the parts of the drawing so they can label it.
Art & Science: This
week we are going to do some explorations with pumpkins. In addition to math activities,
we will also be doing some pumpkin art projects and reading a poem called ‘The
5 Little Pumpkins.’
Sharing: Thank you for helping
your student limit their sharing to only
1 item per day and for making sure that it is connected to the learning we
are doing in the classroom. This week items should begin with any of the
letters m-p, or have something to do with Pumpkins.
Pumpkin Patch: Our school will be
going to the pumpkin patch this Friday Oct. 17 @ 9:30 AM. There will be no
class on this day. Children need to have transportation and supervision
provided by a parent(s). The cost is $5 per child. If other family members
would like to join in the fun they may pay $5 to get a pumpkin too. If you are just
coming for fun, you do not need to pay (no pumpkin). We go rain or shine and
meet at the farm. Please turn in the fee by end of school Thursday. Check out
the link and see this venue that is new to our school this year.
On Thursday, we will be the only class
in the building as the other classes go to the Pumpkin Patch on 2 days. Please
make sure to be out of the building by 12:30 PM on Thursday, as the Church has
events planned in the afternoon. Thank you!
Fundraisers: LAPSK is a non-profit school and
fundraising is an important piece of our program. The SCENTSY Fundraiser ends
on Wednesday, October 15th. 100% of sales go to our school. Our
other current fundraisers are the Kiggins Theater, Scholastic Books (http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs - Click on the State, the
City, then the School to order), Box Tops for Education and Usborne Books eFair (https://n3313.myuban.com/634160).
Trunk or Treat: The Church is sponsoring a
fun family event called “Trunk or treat” on Sunday October 26th. The Parking
lot will be filled with folks and their decorated “Trunks” for your kids to
trick or treat at. LAPSK will have a trunk and the teachers will be dressed in
costumes. Watch for a flyer in your kids cubbie box with the full info.
Classroom Halloween Party: The Kindergarten class will have its
party on Friday, October 31st. The kids can come to school in their costumes (non-scary
and no weapons). We will be walking across the street to Kindred to parade
through and show the grandmas and grandpas how great we look in our costumes.
Then we will have some pizzas and play some fun games. Thank you for signing up
to bring toppings!
Volunteer
Hours: You
may make donations of supplies or snacks to go towards your 2 hours of
volunteer time. I have attached a file to this newsletter containing details of
what we need. Thanks!
Parent-Teacher Conferences: On November 6th there will be no class as we take
time to have parent-teacher conferences. Watch for a sign-up sheet for a time
and a paper coming home for you to let me know of questions or concerns you
have.
Bike Helmets: Remember
to send a helmet to school for your child if he or she would like to
ride on tricycles or scooters during outside play. Bikes are out on sunny days.
Sickness: If your
Kindergartener is sick, please call the school office, or you can send me an
email or a text so we can keep track of illnesses. With cold and flu season
upon us, please have your child wash their hands before coming into the
classroom. Remember to keep kids home if they are running a fever, have a runny
nose with mucus, or a constant cough that they can't keep covered. If they
can't participate in our class activities, let them stay at home and get
better. Thanks for your help in keeping illness to a minimum.
Please feel
free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. Send a text, give me a
call, or you can email. I am here to help you and your child have a great
kindergarten year!
Thank you for
sharing your child with us,
Teacher Sinead
& Teacher Caroline
