Hello
Kindergarten Families!
Recap of the Week: Last
week we worked on the letters Q, R, S, T, and U. We used whiteboards to ‘sound
out’ 3-letter words from the sounds we have learned so far. We had lots of fun
learning about spiders. We made webs and did some counting with creepy
crawlies.
Math: We are continuing working on
numbers to 20. Students will work on comparing numbers, using the math words
‘more,’ ‘less,’ ‘the same,’ ‘equal,’ ‘fewer,’ and ‘greater.’ We will also do
some patterning with fun Halloween shapes and pictures.
Literacy: This week we will
work on the letters V, W, X, Y, and Z. We will brainstorm words beginning with
those letters each day. We will also work on sounding out more words and
writing them on whiteboards. This way we are learning that we use the same
strategies when we read and write. We are also going to do an activity where
students listen to position words and glue bats on to a Halloween scene.
Writing: In handwriting
we will work on the letter Z and begin writing 2 and 3 letter words. We will
write about what we are doing for Halloween and practice writing color words.
Art & Science: We
continue learning about spiders and introduce some bat facts this week. We are
going to make some spider headbands and bats. We will also draw a skeleton
using only our sense of hearing to follow step-by-step directions.
Sharing: Thank you for
helping your student limit their sharing to only 1 item per day and
for making sure that it is connected to the learning we are doing in the
classroom. This week items should begin with any of the letters V-Z, or have
something to do with Halloween.
Trunk or Treat: The
Church is sponsoring a fun family event called “Trunk or treat” Today,
October 26th from 2-4pm. The Parking lot will be filled
with folks and their decorated “Trunks” for your kids to trick or treat at.
LAPSK will have a trunk and the teachers will be dressed in costumes.
Classroom Halloween Party: The Kindergarten class will have its
party on Friday, October 31st. Students can come to school in their costumes
(non-scary and no weapons). We will be walking across the street to Kindred to
parade through and show the Grandmas and Grandpas how great we look in our
costumes. Then we will have some English muffin pizzas and play some fun games.
Thank you for signing up to bring a topping!
Fundraisers: Family photos - We
have a parent-photographer who is offering Family Pictures to the first 4 or 5
families that sign up. She will donate 100% of the funds back to us! Pictures
will be $150 for a 30-minute session on 11/8 from 9-11, first come first serve.
I put a flier in your cubbies on Friday. As you know, LAPSK is a non-profit school and
fundraisers are very important to us. Our other current fundraisers are the
Kiggins Theater, Scholastic Books (http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs - Click on the State,
the City, then the School to order), Box Tops for Education and Usborne Books eFair (https://n3313.myuban.com/634160).
Volunteer
Hours: You
may make donations of supplies or snacks to the school and it will go towards
your 2 hours of volunteer time. A list of the school needs is posted outside
our classroom or you can talk to Teacher Katie. Thanks!
Parent-Teacher Conferences: On November 6th there will be no class as we take
time to have parent-teacher conferences. I will have a sign-up sheet outside
the classroom this week for you to schedule a time to meet. I will also be
sending home a paper for you to let me know of questions or concerns you
have.
Bike Helmets: Remember
to send a helmet to school for your child if he or she would like to
ride on tricycles or scooters during outside play. Bikes are out on sunny days.
Sickness: If your
Kindergartener is sick, please call the school office, or you can send me an
email or a text so we can keep track of illnesses. With cold and flu season
upon us, please have your child wash their hands before coming into the
classroom. Remember to keep kids home if they are running a fever, have a runny
nose with mucus, or a constant cough that they can't keep covered. If they
can't participate in our class activities, let them stay at home and get
better. Thanks for your help in keeping illness to a minimum.
Please
feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. Send a text, give me
a call, or you can email. I am here to help you and your child have a great
kindergarten year!
Thank you
for sharing your child with us,
Teacher
